Breaking News: Growers hands tied
The biggest challenge facing commercial Cannabis producers today is the restriction of pesticides that can be legally used in cultivation.
Federal laws make it illegal to use a product in a manner not consistent with the label and since no modern era pesticides have been registered for use on Cannabis it is a federal offense to use any such product on Cannabis.
This is a throny problem to work out, but it will be worked out, only a matter of time before Cannabis producers will have access to a wider array of safe control products.
In the mean time State authorities are looking at what control products migth be used in their states. Washington State published a proposed list in late 2013 of products they propose for use in Cannabis cultivation. The list is based on products that met federal conditions for the active ingedients not requiring a tolerance level registration. They list is augmented by products that meet the EPA 25b rule which are products of low risk that do not require registration.
The ability of Cannabis producers to fend off economic threats ofthe pest persuasion using this restricted list is yet to be proven. No commercial producer of monoculture crops in the world has been able to do that.
